The Federal Capital Territory Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region of Nigeria.
He made the revelation while reading the communique of a PDP stakeholders meeting arranged by the “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP” in Abuja on Monday.
Wike, a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, promised to assure the president’s reelection in 2027.
In May, the APC leadership endorsed Tinubu for an automatic re-election in 2027.
During the conversation on Monday, Wike stated that he would back the PDP in the 2027 election if the presidential ticket is zoned to the southern region of Nigeria “in the spirit of fairness, inclusion, federal character principles, and respect for our party constitution.”
“The Party must make an unequivocal pronouncement zoning its presidential candidate to the South in the 2027 elections after the unbroken years of Northern President under President Muhammadu Buhari,” according to Wike.
“In accordance with the provisions of our party constitution, only the National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu, can issue notices of meetings of the National Convention, National Executive Committee, National Caucus, and the National Working Committee, and all notices not issued by him, as well as actions based on them, including correspondences to INEC, are null and void and have no effect.
“To finally arrest the inexorable drift towards extinction in our party, the party must, without further delay, respect the judgment of the Supreme Court.”We thus unambiguously confirm Senator Sam Anyanwu as the constitutionally elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party.”
